As a Professor of Chemistry at King's College London and Group Leader at the Francis Crick Institute, following nine years at Oxford University where I was also a Royal Society University Research Fellow, I bring over 20 years of experience at the intersection of biophysics, chemistry, and nanotechnology. My research has pioneered novel approaches in membrane biophysics and single-molecule detection, leading to fundamental breakthroughs in nanopore sensing technology. I have developed four patented innovations in this field, with three successfully licensed to industry partners, including methods that enable five-order magnitude improvements in DNA sequencing throughput.
My expertise spans single-molecule microscopy, membrane protein biophysics, microfluidics, and the development of artificial cell membrane systems. I've developed particular specialization in membrane protein function, interferometric scattering microscopy, and optical single-channel recording, contributing to over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
